This past Sunday, families at Takoma Park’s Seventh Annual Mid-Year Play Day had the opportunity to experience OtherWordly for the first time. Our educational language game drew curious children and parents to our table throughout the afternoon.
Words in Space
Several children gathered around our iPads to play with words in a whole new way. OtherWordly challenges players to connect clue words with partially hidden orbiting words – figuring out that “a?pl?” is “apple” when the clue is “fruit.” The colorful characters and special powers were a hit with the young players!
Educational Play in Action
As part of IDEA’s commitment to childhood literacy, OtherWordly helps children develop essential language skills through engaging gameplay. It was wonderful to see this educational mission in action as children built vocabulary while having fun.
Thank You to Our Players
We’d like to thank all the children who stopped by to play OtherWordly at our table – your excitement and engagement made our day! Special thanks also to the families who signed up to install OtherWordly on their personal iPads. We hope you’re enjoying continuing the adventure at home.
Available Now
If you couldn’t make it to Play Day but would like to experience OtherWordly, you can access it through our website. We’re excited to make this educational resource available to families everywhere.
Looking Forward
Following our debut at Takoma Park, we’ll be bringing OtherWordly to kiosks at the Children’s Museum of the Arts in New York City later this year. We’re committed to sharing our educational tools with communities across the country!
Thank You, Takoma Park!
We’re grateful to Let’s Play America, the Takoma Park Recreation Department, and all the volunteers who made the Mid-Year Play Day possible. Special thanks to Pat Rumbaugh, “The Play Lady,” for creating such a wonderful community event.
We look forward to continuing to share OtherWordly with more families and communities!
